After installation the kernel panics on the Marquis C500 and C510

Problem:

The SuSE 2.6.11.4-20a kernel locks up during boot.

Details:

The lockup occurs when the powersaved daemon is started. The init script for this daemon loads a number of ACPI modules, so the issue may be related to ACPI.

Platforms Effected:

Marquis C500 and C510

Solution:

When the installer reaches the very last screen (Installation Completed):

  1. Select the "Run YaST Control Center" check box
  2. Click on (???)
  3. Click on System in the left panel
  4. Click on System Services (Runlevel) in the right panel
  5. Scroll down to the powersaved entry
  6. Highlight the powersaved entry
  7. Click on the disable button
  8. Click on OK
  9. Click on Finish
  10. Click on Yes
